Bible Reading: The Esv Reader’s Bible

Our family just received the ESV Reader’s Bible for Christmas and it has been such a wonderful resource for bible reading.

The ESV Reader’s Bible is the entire bible in the format of a book! The titles, chapters and verses have been taken out and so it makes for a easier read. This is really helpful because often when we read our Bibles, we can treat our readings in a very inconsistent way. The Bible is not like marbles, in when you drop them on the ground, they scatter. But rather, the Bible is like a knitted piece of clothing, where everything is connected and interwoven. We can not understand the individual parts of Scripture if we do not know the story line of Scripture and where these parts fit into. The ESV Readers Bible helps us by providing a bible which presents Scripture as one book, one story line- as it was originally written.

A Flexible Bible Reading Plan

It was September 2009 when I bought my first real Bible. I found it at Goodwill for $2- probably the best bargain ever.

It was September 2010 when I decided I was applying to an inductive Bible school for the 2011-2012 school year. God had changed my life, changed my heart, and through a series of circumstances he showed me that what I needed in my life more than anything was more of God- more of his character, his love, his truth, as revealed perfectly in his written word. I had a heart for God, but I had finally realized that as a young Christian I desperately needed more wisdom than I was getting from my everyday life. Something had to change.

90 day bible reading plan (Chronological order)

In 2010, I challenged myself to read through the entire bible in just three short months. I realized that I did not know the big picture of the bible and so I created a chronological bible reading plan. It was definitely a challenge but well worth it. It was at this time that the Spirit opened my eyes to the scandalous and radical message of the gospel. If you haven’t had a chance yet to read through the bible from back to front, I highly recommend it! It is roughly 13 chapters a day and should take less than an hour each sitting. If you stay on track you will have read the entire bible back to front in 90 days. If 90 days is too steep for you, there is also a more flexible bible reading plan available. I hope this is of benefit to you as it was for me.
